The Dalai Lama has been a great inspiration for me. I believe our world is interconnected and interdependent. Whatever happens in one region eventually affects many other areas. It requires us to accept the oneness of humanity: all humanity is one family. We are all diverse people, but celebrating our differences, as well as our common interests, helps unite and educate us. Our differences are important, but our common humanity matters more.

''A deep sense of caring for others, based on a profound sense of
interconnection, is the essence of the teachings of all great religions
of the world. In my travels, I always consider my foremost mission to be
the promotion of basic human qualities of goodness -- the need for and
appreciation of the value of love, our natural capacity for compassion
and the need for genuine fellow feeling. No matter how new the face or
how different the dress and behavior, there is no significant division
between us and other people.

Today, more than ever, we need to make this fundamental recognition of
the basic oneness of humanity the foundation of our perspective on the
world and its challenges. From the dangerous rate of global warming to
the widening gap between rich and poor, from the rise of global
terrorism to regional conflicts, we need a fundamental shift in our
attitudes and our consciousness -- a wider, more holistic outlook.''

More specifically, my aim is:

  • To raise awareness about extreme poverty in Afghanistan.

  • To raise awareness about the impact of war on Afghan women and children.

  • To advocate the importance of greater protection of children in Afghanistan especially in conflict zones.

  • To promote peace and equality for women and girls.

  • To talk about the importance of the role of empathy and respect towards other cultures.

  • To address Islamophobia and to overcome ignorance and prejudice towards Muslims.

  • To engage in interfaith dialogue.

  • To inform and speak up for tolerance and understanding.

  • To support other peace initiatives in Afghanistan.

  • To spread the belief of a shared, not seperate, future, one in which everybody has a role to play.
